This death isn't a typical one. There's no funeral, no mourning, no sadness at all. In fact, it's the beginning of life more fully than you've ever known it. This death...is the death of self.
"Self Destruct" is a personal project of mine. I really wanted to depict the issue of death to self in a way we haven't seen before. I wanted to see this raw tension between darkness and light come to life.
I shoot with a Canon 7D and T2i/550D, typically using 18-55mm. $0 budget. The skateboarding shots were Twixtored down to 6000fps (1%) in After Effects.

Saul Williams este poet, scriitor și muzician american din Albany, New York. Saul și-a creat un stil muzical unic prin îmbinarea dintre poezie și hip-hop alternativ; este licențiat în filosofie și actorie, iar din 1995 devine cunoscut ca un open mic poet, câștigînd numeroase premii de slam poetry. Filmul independent Slam, la care Williams a fost și scenograf și actor i-a adus Marele Premiu al Juriului la festivalul de film de la Sundance și Camera D’or la Cannes, premii care l-au consacrat internațional.
A avut colaborări cu artiști precum Nas, The Fugees, Christian Alvarez, Blackalicious, Erykah Badu, KRS-One, Zack De La Rocha, De La Soul, DJ Krust, dar și poeti precum Allen Ginsberg și Sonia Sanchez. După lansarea LP-ului Amethyst Rock Star a avut numeroase show-uri în turneul european al Nine Inch Nails în vara lui 2005, dar și cu The Mars Volta. Trent Reznor a produs următorul album Saul Williams, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!.
Ca scriitor, Saul Williams este publicat în The New York Times, Esquire, Bomb Magazine și African Voices. A publicat patru colecții de poezie. Are turnee în universități și colegii din toata lumea cu show-uri în care îmbină muzică și lecturile.
Explain My Heart, este primul single de pe noul album Volcanic Sunlight, care a fost prezentat pentru prima oara pe 26 ianuarie 2011.
Întrebat care este rolul poeziei în viața lui, Saul Williams spune: “[poezia] este fereastra prin care intră aer, posibilități de a explora ceea ce simțim, ce gândim, cu spațiul de care avem nevoie pentru a vedea mai mult decât ceea ce știm deja. Dacă nu m-aș deschide posibilităților necunoscutului aș fi pierdut.”

The main idea and main concern of mine was to basically parallel the 2 time periods of our band and all the open minded people in the world's present day life and the time period of Jesus' life and show how similar they are. I wanted to highlight the hypocrisy and hold a mirror up to all the self righteous, Holier-than-thou people and show them how full of shit they are. We have our own beliefs and we aren't afraid to speak out about them, We are not satanists, We have a positive message towards finding self-worth and inner peace, We don't discriminate against ANYONE regardless of the way they look, their faith, sexuality, or race, and believe it or not, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Jesus Christ. Yet despite all these very moral and positive vibes, we are still constantly ripped apart for being who we are. Sounds really similar to what happened to the man the people that criticize us put all their faith in. The difference between myself and Jesus is that he was trying to convince people to believe in him and a higher power (God) to find salvation... Whereas *I'M* trying to convince people to believe in themselves. God does not control your life, YOU do.
My band and Myself are 100% completely aware that NOT ALL Christians or followers of any religion are close minded and do the things they do in this video. I've met SO many awesome people in my travels that are Christians etc.. and regardless of whether they like Motionless In White or not, they still know how to keep an open mind and be respectful. I don't want anyone watching this video to feel like they should be angry towards every person of any faith, or that we are attacking their faith directly. The song is very plainly written about the people who abuse Gods name by using it to profit or cause harm to others emotionally or physically, but it's even more importantly written as a call to arms to ANY person in this world to come stand together to fight the ignorance that halts the progression of mankind. Hate me for that, I fucking dare you.
